Food Porn And Screwed Up Sleep

Just an hour. You get an extra hour of sleep. Blah, blah, blah. The time change ruins me twice a year and I have no recourse except to complain. My internal clock told me I needed to get up at what was perceived the correct time, only instead, the damn clock told me I had to lay in bed staring in the dark until it was the newly ‘official’ correct time.

Perhaps it is the lack of carbohydrates that is making me dungy. My wife an I are on the South Beach diet which proscribes the elimination of all carbs for two weeks before re-introducing them in small amounts. !’m at 158 lbs. For the week, I’ve lost nothing. Maybe I’ve reached my low point. The least I’ve weighed- as an adult- is 131 lbs. when I was in Basic Training for the Army. I thought I might be able to hit 148 lbs., but...

Anyway. My wife sent me a link of world breakfasts because apparently she too is thinking of food. I scrolled through the breakfasts from fifty countries and it was like the greatest porn I had ever seen. I kept going back and forth, from naan bread to sausage to fired eggs to noodle dishes. It was fantastic!

My wife said that we can do a theme week, try the recipes once a week for the year- after our diet of course. And after our trip to New Zealand. I can’t wait. A tall stack of pancakes with a side of bacon... mmmm!

I’m going to go look at some more food pictures... in as non-creepy a way as I can...

That stack of pancakes and bacon is making me salivate. Sadly, if I consumed that, I'd be spending the rest of the day on the treadmill. I shudder at the thought ...

Made mention of your blog on mine, by the way :)

Yeah, whatever you can't have is what you crave. Good luck. Like the picture.

The wife and I are trying to drop some weight so that we eat ourselves silly once we get to New Zealand in a couple of weeks. Essentially, I have had zero carbs for a bout a week now. I love pancakes and pasta and bread, so this diet kind of sucks.

I appreciate the mention, Wendy. Truly flattered... :)

Julia- According to the South Beach diet book, after a while, your body supposedly doesn't crave the carbs- that is a lie, believe me. The last time I did this diet with the wife, I ate a loaf of bread by myself when we finished. Kind of ruined the whole diet thing.

Love food porn, but you know my body has figured out a way to add poundage by just looking at those pictures. Don't even get me started on the aroma thing.

We don't change the time here in the Caribbean, it's so much more sensible. Although, at this time of year it makes me feel farther from the States. Not that it's necessarily a bad thing. Just farther away.

Enjoy New Zealand and a carb pig out. Man may not live by bread alone, but it sure is boring without it.

Dang! Now I'm hungry. Carbs are my achilles heel. Pancakes, french toast, steel cut oats. Breakfast is a veritable mine field!

Great post! Thanks.

Can't wait, farawayeyes, to pig out in New Zealand. Just over two weeks and then I'm gone... eating bread, drinking wine... adjusted to the time change... battling jet-lag...

Karen- I know, right? I could eat carbs all day and be fine. Love biscuits, morning, noon and night...
